Sleeping Moths Gig Poster

The objective of this project is to design a conceptual gig poster for a fictional band. Drawing inspiration from some of my favorite songs, I chose “Run Away to Mars” by TALK. The poster seeks to visually convey the song’s theme of escaping to Mars as a way of retreating from everything, while still capturing the lingering sense of longing for what has been left behind. The design reflects this emotional tension between distance and desire, creating a powerful narrative through imagery and composition.

The Process

After exploring various concepts and ideas, I ultimately decided to pursue the symbol of an empty chair, as it effectively conveys themes of longing and loneliness. Placing the chair on Mars further enhances the sense of isolation, making it the ideal concept for this poster. The juxtaposition of the chair in a distant, barren landscape reflects the emotional depth of the song and reinforces the idea of escaping while still yearning for what was left behind.

Designing and Refining

Even after adding detail, the design still felt incomplete. The vibrant colors were detracting from the overall mood I wanted to achieve. Upon reflection, I decided to incorporate texture and apply an overlay, which helped bring the design together and added the finishing touches. These adjustments created the depth and atmosphere needed to align the visual tone with the intended concept.
